Hi, I’m Julius Voigt (He/Him), I live and work in Halle (Saale) and Berlin.

I’m a visual artist and cultural and literary scholar. In my artistic (research) projects I am currently investigating questions of origin, socialisation and subjectivation. I have a particular affinity for artistic practices between text, image and space and generally for the translation between different forms and media, also including film and performance.

I am currently teaching At the Art School Berlin-Weißensee and researching at the Collaborative Research Center “Transformations of the Popular” at the University of Siegen. I am doing my doctorate at the Bauhaus University Weimar in the field of artistic research.

In My current PhD project I critically examine UNESCO’s initiatives to produce and disseminate colour reproductions of artworks through travelling exhibitions in Africa, Asia and (South) America after 1946. This artistic research project questions the ideological, aesthetic and cultural implications of these practices in the broader context of artistic reproduction, curatorial strategies and global knowledge production. By integrating scholarly and artistic methods, new perspectives are opened on the function of art as a medium of critical engagement with historical and contemporary global power structures.

My artistic practice, artistic and academic research and teaching are closely intertwined. This joint thinking and action is always characterised by methodological curiosity and an interest in knowledge and insight. I understand exchange, inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration as an artistic medium as well as a fruitful aesth-ethical practice. In particular, the attention to language(s) and communication is usually a central phenomenon that bundles my ‘un/disciplined’ practice.
