My work The Round A Corner at the exhibition Fading Into Eigengrau (curated by Canberk Akçal) at the Berlin Art Festival 48H Neukölln in 2023. It was a pleasure and an honour to play around and perform at the KINDL Centre for Contemporary Art together with Shona Stark and many other lovely artists and visitors who came and curiously looked at … the round a corner.
Playing around, I mean literally. On the one hand, from what I know of his curatorial work, Canberk always strives for playful, experimental and unorthodox ways of dealing with a space. On the other hand, I have increasingly come to work in a way that deliberately leaves things open in terms of installation until the opening of an exhibition. Or I would even change the installation during the show, adding or deleting things. Here we planned to add a lot of writing during the show, so it became a mixture of installation + writing performance. The white writing with chalk I mostly added on the opening night, taking bits and pieces from people’s conversations and comments and remixing them with my own ideas about space, semiotics, images, frames and so on. Some people I asked more directly about their feelings and ideas about certain aspects of the work, and they came up with beautiful and sometimes very touching personal impressions. So I’m also very grateful to the people who came, looked and contributed. Thank you very much!
