You Are Here!

The work ‘You Are Here!’ by Canberk Akçal and me combines performance and text work and culminates in a collaborative text mural measuring approximately 3x7m. It can be read and viewed as a poetic mapping of Zeitgeist, a form of ‘architexture’ and also as a dialogical ‘textperiment’.

‘You Are Here!’ was created live at the opening of the exhibition ‚From Artemis to Dara: Remember the Utopia‘ curated by ÖzgÜr aydek and happening at Konak Metro Gallery in Izmir as Part of the Artmeet festival 2025. The writing performance happened over a period of four hours and responds to the central theme of ‘construction’ and the places mentioned in the title (Dara and Ephesus) in an associative, metaphorical and concrete way. The text mural also captures theoretical fragments, personal observations and references from art and, in particular, literature and music, which make up the majority of the work. Altogether it can be understood as an ongoing and unfinished friendly and artistic dialogue between Canberk and me.
This being said the ‘dynamic construction’, which ranges on different levels here, invites visitors, readers and viewers to immerse themselves, read along and think further, because we know: You Are Here!
